Air Conditioner Tips

Our heat wave is here, Winnipeg!

As a certified refrigeration mechanic, here are a few tips to help your air conditioner out during this time and normal operation.

1. Be sure your air filter in your furnace is clean/new.

2. Clean your outside air conditioner condenser coil with your garden hose.

3. Do not set your temperature in your house higher during the day because you’re not home. It does not have the “power” to bring it back down to a comfortable temperature by the time you get home.

4. Close your vents that feed the basement area. The basement is generally cooler than the rest of the house and doesn’t require as much air circulation to keep it cool.

5. Keep your furnace fan running 24/7. This will ensure a more consistent air temperature from the basement to the main floor. This is only an option, because some people do not like the air flow or noise. To each their own.

Remember, your air conditioner is basically a dehumidifier. It can be 25 in your house, but with low humidity it will feel quite a bit cooler.

If you notice any “ice” buildup, shut the outside unit off and give us a call. We would be happy to walk you through some solutions you can try.

If you have any other concerns or you require further assistance, please give us a call. We often have the parts required to service most air conditioning units.

We hope these tips will save you a costly service call.

Please share these tips with your friends and family. It’s not much fun sleeping when it’s hot in the house.

Cheers and stay cool!
