Plumbing Tips

Do you have a dripping faucet or a clogged sink?

We’re more than happy to provide residential and commercial plumbing services in and around Winnipeg. However, some plumbing issues can be resolved or prevented with a few tips!

  1. To flush or not to flush, that is the question! And the answer is… flushing anything except toilet paper leads to nasty clogs. Even “flushable” wipes can back up the system, so be careful and ensure that the only product that makes its way into your toilet is toilet paper.

  2. Garbage goes in the garbage, not the kitchen sink. Disposing of food waste like coffee grounds or bacon grease will almost certainly cause a clogged drain.

  3. A little leak can cost a lot. When a faucet or fixture steadily drips, money is going down the drain. In fact, a leaky faucet can waste up to eight gallons of water per day, while a running toilet can waste 200 gallons per day. Fix small leaks before they become big (expensive) problems.

  4. Hanging pictures or shelves? Drilling holes in your walls, ceiling or floors? Be sure to determine if there are any supply or drainage pipes behind your work area, since you don’t want to accidentally puncture them. You may be able to locate pipes behind walls with a stud finder.

  5. Take the plunge! When you own a home, it’s inevitable that you’ll need to use a plunger at some point to unclog a toilet, sink, or a bathtub. To use a plunger effectively, you’ll first need to use the proper plunger for a job: A flange for a toilet and a cup plunger for tubs and sinks. Get a tight seal and then plunge up and down in a vertical motion for about 20 seconds.

  6. Install a shower strainer. This is an easy way to catch hair and other globs of soap and shampoo before it goes down the drain and blocks up the pipes.

And as always, if you require assistance or have a question about your plumbing project, we’re just a phone call away.
